Phoenix — Governor Katie Hobbs has officially declared June as National Safety Month in Arizona, following a request submitted by the Arizona Chapter National Safety Council (ACNSC), reinforcing the state’s commitment to eliminating preventable injuries and fatalities.

Each June, ACNSC joins with the National Safety Council (NSC) to lead National Safety Month, a nationwide campaign to raise awareness of the most common causes of unintentional injury and death. In the U.S., someone dies from a preventable incident approximately every two minutes. In 2023 alone, 222,698 lives were lost to preventable injuries — a 154% increase since 1992.

“Thank you to Governor Hobbs for declaring June as National Safety Month in Arizona,” says Rick Murray, President and CEO of the Arizona Chapter National Safety Council. “This month is a reminder that looking out for each other is one of the most important things we can do. We also want to thank the employers and individuals who make safety a priority at work, at home, and in their communities. Your efforts are saving lives.”

This year, National Safety Month will focus on four weekly themes:
  • Week 1: Continuous Safety Improvement
  • Week 2: Employee Engagement
  • Week 3: Roadway Safety
  • Week 4: Worker Wellbeing

June is an especially important time to spotlight public safety. The summer season typically brings a spike in unintentional injuries and fatalities, making proactive safety efforts more vital than ever.

Throughout the month, ACNSC will work alongside the National Safety Council and partners across Arizona to promote better safety practices and provide free tools to help employers and community members take the lead in creating safer environments.
