ACNSC lead trainer Ed Taube joined Valley Focus for a 15 minute conversation on why CPR and AED training saves lives, especially during the holidays when stress, travel, large meals, and packed schedules raise the risk of cardiac emergencies.
Hosted by Kayla Mortellaro, Valley Focus is a radio program produced by Hubbard Radio Phoenix that highlights the work of nonprofits across the state. The program airs on KDUS AM 1060.
What Raises the Risk
Ed explained that cardiac emergencies increase during the holidays. Most cardiac arrests happen at home, which means family and friends are often first on scene. Symptoms can include chest pressure spreading to the neck, jaw, or arm, sweating, dizziness, and nausea. These signals are easy to ignore, which delays help.
What To Do
Ed outlined the steps that increase survival. Call 911. If the person is not breathing, start compressions at 100 to 120 per minute. Use an AED as soon as one is available. AEDs are common in public spaces and designed for anyone to use.
Training That Prepares You
ACNSC’s CPR and AED classes teach how to protect yourself, perform CPR, use an AED, and respond to choking. ACNSC is offering a $20 holiday discount on its standard CPR, First Aid, and AED course through December 31, 2025.
Why It Matters
Ed said training gives people both the skill and confidence to act. Early compressions and rapid AED use give someone their best chance at survival.
